How to use the throat swab

The function of the throat sampling swab is to collect specimens from the throat for the detection of pathogens, such as viruses and bacteria. Specifically, it can be used to detect the presence of infectious diseases, such as viruses related to AIDS, influenza, and the new coronavirus. After the sampling swab collects the specimen, it can be used for PCR or fluorescence detection to determine whether there are related viruses or bacteria.

When collecting specimens from the throat, the swab gently scrapes the surface of the throat mucosa for testing. Although this process may be a little uncomfortable, it is usually harmless. After the specimen is collected, the swab is usually discarded and will not be reused or spread disease.

It should be noted that specimen collection should be performed by professionals to ensure that the operation is standardized to avoid accidental injury. If you have any concerns or need help, you can consult a professional doctor.

When using a throat swab, you can refer to the following steps:

1. Hold the sampling swab between your thumb and index finger, and gently and slowly rotate the round end of the swab until it feels a little tight after a few rotations.

2. Gently insert the sampling swab into the oral cavity, approximately at the distal root apex of the last molar of the lower alveolar denture, approximately at the isthmus of the throat wall, and slowly rotate the sampling swab for a few seconds.

3. After sampling, place the sampling swab into the correct collection tube container, tighten the tube head, and cut off the unnecessary swab tail.

4. At the same time, use the same throat swab to collect nasopharyngeal secretions and allow the collected specimen to enter the tube.

5. Finally, note the corresponding information and store it for testing.

Pay attention to safety during use to avoid damage to the throat due to improper operation and excessive stimulation of the throat when collecting the throat swab, which may cause vomiting.

If you feel any discomfort, please seek medical help immediately.
