The difference between cryogenic tubes and centrifuge tubes

Although cryotubes and centrifuge tubes are common tubes used to store biological samples in laboratories, they are quite different in material, structure and use.

Cryotubes usually refer to plastic tubes used for freezing and preserving biological samples, and are made of polypropylene material. Cryotubes usually have a sealed lid to prevent sample evaporation and contamination. The volume of cryopreservation tubes is usually between 1.5ml and 5ml, and is often used to freeze and preserve biological samples such as cells, viruses, serum, enzymes, and nucleic acids.

Centrifuge tubes are tubes used for centrifugal separation and storage of biological samples, often made of polypropylene or polyethylene. It usually does not have an airtight lid and is usually sealed with aluminum foil or tape. The volume of centrifuge tubes is usually between 0.2ml and 2ml. They are often used to prepare PCR reagents, isolate DNA, RNA and other nucleic acids and other biological samples.
